It humanized me enough that people could relate much better, but all that stuff it really helped my character in, in my career. Because up until that point Kane had just been like an emotionless monster and what that did for me, our tag team, was it really helped round out my character because it showed that Kane has feelings and all that stuff which I never had before.

Kane was quoted while discussing teaming with X-Pac and also how his character developed and was humanized. Sadly, the celebration of Kane speaking was short-lived as The Undertaker and The Big Show attacked them ahead of their Summerslam clash, where they captured the Tag-Team Championships over Kane and X-Pac. Kane said the D-X phrase ‘suck it’ to a huge ovation from the crowd. Afterwards, in celebration, Kane spoke for the first time without the use of the gimmicked electro-larynx. X-Pac and Kane defeated The Acolytes to capture the WWE Tag Team Championships once again. All this led to a WWE Tag Team Championship match at Summerslam between X-Pac and Kane against The Undertaker and Big Show.Īnother major night for the development of the Kane character transpired during the August 9th episode of RAW. X-Pac would cost The Undertaker the WWE Championship in the main event. That segment of Raw, choosing his friend over his brother was a major development in the Kane character, proving he can make choices by himself.Īt Fully Loaded, The Undertaker attacked Kane and X-Pax along with The Big Show. Jim Ross on commentary was wonderful as he shouted “He’s almost human.” Kane, angry at seeing his brothers’ manipulative ways, chokeslammed him and carried X-Pac over his shoulder to the back. On their way up the ramp, Kane saw the replay of his brother delivering the chokeslam to X-Pac. Kane showed genuine concern for his fallen friend, but The Undertaker dragged him away. As Kane and X-Pax teamed together, The Undertaker came down and delivered a chokeslam to Pac. On the road to Fully Loaded, Kane and The Undertaker had bonded once again in Taker’s quest to regain the WWE Championship, but X-Pac warned Kane not to be manipulated by his brother. X-Pac continued to try and prove that he possessed grit as he reached the final of the 1999 King of the Ring. Kane attempted to remove X-Pac from the match with the Big Show, but X-Pac refused and managed to kick Show out of the ring. This began the long story with X-Pac trying to prove he had heart and could work against the bigger men of WWE and even defeat them. While both were in the ring, The Big Show didn’t want to compete in the match but X-Pac wouldn’t allow Show to leave and challenged him.

McMahon would book X-Pac in a match with The Big Show to punish the former 123 Kid. After 50 days as WWE Tag Team Champions, the Acolytes defeated X-Pac and Kane to capture the championships after Shane McMahon interfered. They continued to team together and successfully defended the tag titles at Over the Edge retaining against D’Lo Brown and Mark Henry. Kane picked up Pac and carried him to the back after being the one to knock him out. Kane would deliver a chokeslam on X-Pac out of anger but afterwards, felt a sense of remorse. They would defend their tag team championships on RAW over the next few weeks, but their relationship was strained at first though. They managed to win the WWE Tag Team Championships defeating Jeff Jarrett and Owen Hart. Feeling rejected, X-Pac and Kane found solace amongst themselves and on April 5th, 1999, episode of Raw, they teamed together for the first time.

Chyna, reuniting with Triple H, betrayed Kane after both had struck up a small friendship. The story of this tag team has moments of joy and happiness but ends with a tale of deceit and hate.Īfter Wrestlemania XV, Triple H turned his back on his best friend and sided with cooperate boss Shane McMahon and his partner Chyna. What developed was a bond that humanized the Kane character and created a strong friendship, but their union unravelled after Kane found love and enemies became friends again. X-Pac and Kane were two wrestlers disregarded and betrayed by their friends but found each other in their battle with common enemies.
